Thanks for stopping by Awesome Thompson Dot Com! My name is Gavin Thompson and it’s a pleasure to have you here.
Awesome Thompson Dot Com was launched as a creative outlet for me to get back in the habit of writing. I have been crafting stories my entire life, however lately found myself out of the habit and was having difficulty putting pen to paper.
A big focus of this blog will be a landing pad and showcase for content that I think is really creative. Many of these items will probably surround something from my past, be it 80’s cartoon references, toys, comics or even video games . The reason is that many of these sources are my muses. Whenever I invest myself into an idea or project, I always have to ask myself several questions: Am I as passionate about this idea as I was about He-Man or G.I.Joe growing up? Is this idea as creative as my sources of inspiration? Do I get the same sense of wonderment and joy working on this idea, as I did playing around when I was a kid?
Another major focus of this blog will be something I know quite well and love talking about: me!
Kidding!! However, the site will eventually work as a showcase for my own artwork when I’m ready to share.
Over the last few years, I’ve worked throughout the film industry with the end-game goal of eventually producing film. This quest has really opened my eyes to a lot of great people and experiences, but more importantly it’s opened me up to several other great avenues that might be worth pursuing outside the industry.
So, want to know more about the author? Here are some random self-indulgent facts about me:
- I live in Vancouver Toronto. As of January 2010 I have found myself back at University and away from the comforting grasp of Vancouver and the West Coast. I miss it, but am willing to give Toronto a chance.
- I’ve backpacked through Europe; however it couldn’t compare to the two weeks I spent at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. It was an incredible experience and every year I debate going back.
- I’ve run into friends in London, Amsterdam, Cannes, Toronto, Los Angeles and Rome; the world is incredibly small.
- In high-school I operated, with a very good friend of mine, a MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) called “Asgardian Nightmares.” It was the cause of many skipped classes.
- I have owned and operated 5 or 6 companies. At one point a radio station gave me the title “the youngest entrepreneur in Victoria.”
- My Dad used to drop me off at junior high every morning threatening to talk to me out the window in front of the student body with a sock puppet. By threatening me, I mean he actually did it daily and it was mortifying. (Secretly I loved it.)
- When I was younger (elementary school) my dream career was to own a restaurant dedicated strictly to potatoes (The Potato Emporium). At one point I knew over 110 recipes for potatoes.
- I don’t collect action figures anymore; however I do own an unproduced G.I. Joe figure. The website “Yo Joe!” says the following about the figure: “because they were never released in stores and because of their uniquely rare nature, the Manimals are an unrealistic goal for the completist G.I.Joe collector.” I display him with geek pride and relish that I bought him for a dollar many years ago.
Well that’s all for now, thanks for stopping by!
